The civil unrest causing us to miss our 3-day port call in Bordeaux provided an extra day in Bilbao, and we are extremely happy to have more time in this fantastic place. Bilbao is the capitol of Basque Country, a distinct cultural and geographic territory that straddles the Pyrenees and France 🇫🇷 and Spain 🇪🇸 . It's a world class city known for great food -- pintxos or Basque tapas, local wine and many Michelin restaurants. And it's just plain gorgeous 😍 , with a beautiful river walk, encircling mountains, charming Spanish architecture and friendly and courteous locals.
