Travel Insurance

Everyone agrees, travel insurance is a necessity. We insure our home, cars, health, pets, and lives, why wouldn’t we insure our travel and adventures that we value so much?  We always buy travel insurance because we have realized all of the potential things that can happen while traveling.  When we are planning a trip the images of fun, adventure and exotic places dance in our heads.  But experience has shown us things don’t always go as planned.  While we’ve never had to make a claim, on our last trip two of our travel companions did!

We purchase our travel insurance through World Nomads and you can request a quote directly from World Nomads below.

Handling Mail on the Road

One of the biggest concerns we had as we prepared to take off traveling for a year was how to receive and stay on top of our mail. After storing our belongings, renting our house and getting ready to head out, we still worried about how to handle our mail. How can we be sure we receive important mail? What contact address should we use when we don’t have a permanent address? We know we can pay most of our bills electronically, but what about a one time bill, or something unexpected?

We thought about it and determined we needed an address to receive our mail while traveling, we needed to be able to read the contents of the envelopes in real time, we needed to be able to shred the contents after handling, and we might need to receive and deposit paper checks by mails.

After a lot of research and considering various alternatives, we found Traveling Mailbox. Their services met all of our requirements at a very inexpensive rate.

Traveling Mailbox is easy to use, saves time, and keeps us organized. You are notified by e-mail when new mail arrives, after reviewing a scan of the envelope, you direct how it should be handled. We appreciate these benefits so much that we plan on continuing to use this service even after we stop traveling. We’ve found it to be easier and more efficient that actually receiving ‘real’ mail.

Traveling Mailbox is who we use and we recommend their service. Click the image below to learn more about their services.

Connecting and Engaging Grand Kids

We want to stay connected with our grand kids while we travel around the world. We’ve been brainstorming how to do this. Post cards, phone calls and Facetime all come to mind and we’ll definitely do these, but we were looking to also engage them in a travel adventure.

Serendipity struck when we heard about Little Passports. This subscription box has Kids discovering a new country each month with pen pals Sam & Sofia! Packages include letters, fun souvenirs, activity sheets, stickers, photos and more, plus access to the Boarding Zone for more online games! Our oldest granddaughter is 8 and we think she’ll be thrilled to receive her own mail each month. We also hope this will help her understand and connect with where in the world is Mimi and GrandPa.
