About Us – Jon and Barb

Meet Jon and Barb

Jon and Barbara passage For TwoRe-Imagining Retirement

Hi! We are Jon and Barb, two Northern Californians in the midst of planning the next stage of our lives together.  Like lots of people we've spent a healthy chunk of time on the treadmill of life:  working, raising kids, going back to school, maintaining a house and volunteering in the community.  We wouldn't have done it differently.  Now that retirement is on the not-too-distant horizon a lot of evenings are spent re-imagining just what we want our retirement to be.

Everyday is Saturday

Until a year ago, retirement was not top of mind for us at all. In fact, we joked that we would work until we got too tired or someone from stage left gave us the hook!  The retirement seed took hold as we observed friends retire and thrive in a lifestyle where every day is Saturday.  We began to brainstorm and talk seriously about what we wanted our retirement to look like.  We agreed it was important to spend our energy and time in ways more meaningful to us than simply “not working.”  We are sure that during retirement we will continue to want to explore, experience and re-invent how we live before it’s time for us to settle into our rockers, but first, we have some unfinished business.

When we first were dating, we discovered we each aspired to travel (a lot) more.  At the time, Barb’s idea of a romantic dream trip was to backpack through Europe with a rail pass like a college student while the Great Wall of China, St. Petersburg, and Scandinavia got Jon’s heart racing.

Someday is Today !

We put off most of our travel dreams until someday – someday is today!  Our thoughts about travel have evolved and we look forward to un-tethering and trotting the globe as nomads.  Instead of backpacking like college kids, we want to have genuine experiences staying in neighborhoods, living like locals, engaging with people, culture and history, with a level of comfort and security.

We are grateful for the abundance of fresh blog, vlog, podcast and website content shared by the nomadic tribe.  Their stories of locations inspired and their practical and logistical tips helped us discover our way.

We would like to invite you on our journey as we prepare to un-tether, figure out and plan how and what our new nomadic lifestyle will be like, and experience our successes and stumbles along the way. Our aggressive plan is to circle the globe eastward during 2018. We are excited to begin what we believe is an adventure of a lifetime.

We hope you will join us as we book our Passage for Two.
